I went out to day to Sound about the Bay, & towards Oparre We found many Coral Banks, and some dangerous places for a large Ship if coming in with a Swell in the Bay. Three and four fathoms were in several places off Tarrah towards the Dolphin. On my landing at my second Station to take some bearings, I was seized with a burning heat in my head and flushes in my face that I could no longer support myself. I was got under the Shade of Trees, and by help of some kind Natives who brought me Cocoa Nutts and Apples I recovered, got into my Boat and returned on Board where the Fever happily went off. I left the rest to be done by Lieut. Portlock whose alertness and attention to his duty, and every thing I direct him to do, makes me at all times think of him with regard and esteem. I have now scarce the power of bearing much fatigue. Many necessary duties however cause me to suffer a great deal.
