Remarks in Toahroah Harbour Friday 2^nd. January 1789

Squally with Rain first and middle part and Light Winds from the Land. Latter part fair W^r. Wind NE, ESE, ENE. Therm^r. 79° to 82°.

Employed making Spun Yarn and the Armourer at the Forge. As we have just now very little to do I directed that two Men should have leave every day to go on shore for their Amusement. Four Venereals in the List.

My Friend Tynah after many enquiries and much trouble brought me to day the Cleaver that had been stolen. The Theif had taken it to Attahooroo and very reluctantly gave it up. It was brought to me in the Evening and in the Morning I offered Tynah a present of Axes and other things, but as he conceived it was in return for getting the Cleaver returned he would not accept of a single article or could I persuade him to it.

It is somewhat remarkable that all last month and this as soon as the sun and moon came between 120° and 30° of distance, heavy rains have always set in, so that I have not been able to make a single observation.
