Fresh Breezes and dark gloomy Wr. with continual Rain and much Thunder and Lightning. Wind at Et. ENE and NE. Thermr. 77° to 78½°. Two Venereals in the List. Sailmakers employed about the Sails, and as I am now determined to sail in course of a few days if possible I ordered the Staysails to be bent.
I had my Friends about me as usual, they seemed more desirous and sollicited me more earnestly to remain here than they have done. I therefore left them in doubt of the time of my sailing as I have yet a point to determine, which is the depth of water between this and the Eastermost Harbour of Oparre and of the anchorage off the entrance of it. I should have examined this before now if the weather had not been so unfavorable there some days past, however I shall send a Boat in the afternoon to sound and from which I shall determine whether I shall proceed to Imeo or Oparre.
Tynah to day made me a present of a large Hog and many Breadfruit &ca for which I gave him considerably, but it was with difficulty I got him to take it.
Covered the Doctors Grave with Stones and fixed an inscription to it of the day he died.
