Fair Wr. and moderate Breezes at E to SE with some lightning in the middle part, and some distant Thunder. Sailmakers employed about the sails. Two Carpenters making a Chest for Tynah, and hands drying and picking Bread. Received sufficient supplies as usual. Sick list 5 Venels as yesterday. Thermr. from 79° to 81°.
The Rain yesterday was of great use to the Plants and they are now in so thriving a state, that I cannot think of removing them for some time. I must therefore at all events risk lying here a few weeks longer if possible, and I am more particularly led to it as we have no appearance of bad Wr. the sea being less upon the Reefs than I have seen it since I have been here, & smoother in the Bay. The Natives also fortold the late bad weather; they now say all is past. It is remarkable that on the same days of the month eleven years ago when I was at Ulietea with Captn. Cook we experienced the same weather, which from some accounts of the Natives almost confirm to me that in the Month of December the Season begins to change as it does on the north side of Jamaica in the month of June.
Nothing material occurred these 24 Hours.
