X.—Recent Accounts of the Pitcairn Islanders. Communicated
by John Barrow Esq., F.R.S. Read 10th June, 1833. As the public have not ceased to take a great interest in the little colony of Pitcairn's Island, though no account of its proceedings has been published since that given in the Narrative of Captain Beechey's Voyage, the following extracts from official documents regarding it will probably he found interesting. The first is from a private Journal kept by the Honourable Captain Waldegrave, who visited the island in H.M.S. Seringapatam, in 1830, shortly before its inhabitants were induced to emigrate to Otaheite. The second is a despatch addressed to the Lieutenant Governor of New South Wales, by Captain Sandilands, of H.M. sloop Comet, who was employed to remove them. The remainder describe them since their return. . . . .
